RESIDENCIES

Gideonsson/Londré - Performance residency

This years Performance Residency in Jokkmokk goes to the artistic duo Gideonsson/Londré from Kallrör, Sweden.
Their practice involves performances, installations and interventions that consist of highly regulated everyday activities, in relation to different experiences of time. 

During their stay in Jokkmokk, Gideonsson/Londré will continue their work, focusing on how a specific site, a landscape and a shared history can gather in the body. They want to experience different places in Jokkmokk municipality, but also meeting people that can deepen their knowledge regarding managing and passing on history.

As Artist in Residence, Guermouche will be working on an ongoing archive project relating to the construction of the Swedish nation-state interconnected with its antagonism against Russia. The archive takes its starting point in Guermouche’s military service at the Lapland Ranger Regiment in Kiruna and is built on historical material such as marching songs, news articles, artworks, laws, and psalms. During his stay, he will focus on sources connected to Jokkmokk, North Bothnia, and Sápmi.

Alexandra Ravskaya & Alexander Ravskyi

“All this time, while there was a war in our country, for 10 months out of 12 we were living at our home, in Ukraine, along with everyone who stayed there.  Back in the spring, we had a desire to create a series of paintings about the war, about what we know, what we feel and what we think is our first joint exhibition. First of all, it is about the war, about people in the war, and also about us.”

During the pandemic in 2021 Swedish Lapland AiR and Berwick Visual Arts collaborated with a digital residency between the two artists Mats Wikström and Morag Eaton. The digital exchange was an opportunity for a creative practitioner based in Råneå and Berwick-upon-Tweed to learn about each other's practice and the creative communities they are part of within their respective rural localities.

Now it's time to meet. Morag Eaton will travel to Sweden and work in Luleå and Råneå, hosted by Mats Wikström and the Råne biennial.

"My Weaving Kiosks have taken place in four Nordic Capitals and were created with the purpose of exploring how hand-weaving could take place in urban Nordic society today.

Coming to Haparanda-Tornio as part of The Learning Room Residency, I am considering where and for whom a Kiosk in a non-metropolitan like this setting can make sense.
